Good to keep an eye on the Norks as long as these flights have escorts.

The U.S. flew four aircraft, the RC-135W Rivet Joint, E-8C, RQ-4 Global Hawk and RC-135S Cobra Ball, over the country between Tuesday and early Wednesday. The planes were believed to have carried out missions in and around the Korean Peninsula, Yonhap reported.

Interesting. Cobra Ball is specifically to monitor ballistic missile launch and re-entry, both visually and signal/telemetry intercept...

Rather than risking aircraft I wonder why Space Command didn't task some satellites to do the job ? Speaking of sat's the US is going to make stealthy sat's that may be able to " hide".

Honestly why don't all ya'all just give Kim Jong the Gaddafi treatment?

It doesn't look like the aircraft actually flew over North Korean soil. I mean the global hawk *may* have, but sure as hell they wouldn't put an RC-135 or an E-8 up over Nork air defences.

The headline used in the linked MSN article suggests that they overflew NK territory, whereas the headline of the Yonhap News Agency article that was quoted as the source of information paints a different picture.

"U.S. flies 4 spy planes at same time amid concern about N.K. 'Christmas gift'"

The US has been really taking EW & jamming seriously, not that Russia & China are back to being the focus.  I'm sure jamming North Korean radar wasn't particularly hard, if they did fly over NK territory.

Between equipment that may not even function and troops' morale behind pretty lackluster, guessing the odd flyover isn't as risky as it would be compared to somewhere like Iran.  :2c:
