South Africa made a vehicle with the Oto Melara 76mm, which is more powerful, faster firing and has more ammo options than the L23, and was designed for use in a turret.

Plus they developed a 103mm version and on the same chassis

But why would you fire a smoke or illumination round at the enemy? That makes no sense...??

A 25mm-30mm burst of rounds coming out of autocannons, when fired at the enemy, will do more damage & do it more quickly than a 76mm 'puff slug' flying through the air, even if it is a HE round.

There are other ways to deploy smoke rounds to obscure one's visibility or to use as concealment during a move, and the same goes for illumination rounds. Having one of your fighting vehicles aiming it's main armament up in the air to fire illumination rounds takes a vehicle out of the fight, and kinda defeats the purpose of NVD & thermal sensors
They could use a IR illum round or IR smoke.
Does the 25mm have a smoke, illum or canister round?

Perhaps you are thinking of this beast from Otomelara? The Otomatic? The forward turret from an Iroquois on a Leo 1 equivalent.

It never made it past prototype but perhaps it is time to revisit the concept. The 76 SR is a remote weapon system in any case.

The Otomatic is an Italian self-propelled anti-aircraft gun developed by Otomelara in the late 1980s which featured their 76mm L/62 naval anti-aircraft gun that was already widely used by multiple countries on destroyers and frigates.
They mounted the 76mm gun along with its autoloader and its fire control systems and radars on a high profile turret which was fitted on the chassis of the Italian OF-40 main battle tank.
With its large caliber gun, the Otomatic is capable of engaging enemy aircraft at greater ranges compared to other SPAAGs armed with 35-40mm autocannons.
It could detect enemy aircraft at up to 15 kilometers away and could engage jet aircraft when they get within a range of 4 kilometers while helicopters could be engaged at a much farther distance of 6 kilometers.
The Otomatic could also track up to 8 to 24 air targets simultaneously and engage them one after the other.
Despite having superior performance over other self-propelled anti-aircraft gun systems, the Otomatic never entered service in the Italian Army or in other countries but Otomelara still further developed it into the Draco 76mm SPAAG with had a lighter redesigned turret with upgraded systems mounted on the chassis of the B1 Centauro wheeled tank destroyer.

For those wondering why it's takes so long to train a F16 pilot....

That supposes that you want the F16 as a fighter and not just as a bomb-truck for stand-off missiles.
It may also suppose that you are talking about rookie pilots and not pilots that have already seen lots of combat in other aircraft.
