Political huh? Ok, we started talking about Brenda Stronach, what do you guys think? Good thing or bad thing?

The lady is totally inexperienced in any political position, she has never even been a town councillor, or a provincial legislature member. She has never held ANY elected position.

Her father is multi-millionaire, wjo owns the largest auto parts maker in Canada, Magna Industries. They make most of the sub-assembly parts for Ford, GM, Daimler Chrysler, Toyota, and Suzuki. If you drive any of those brands, your seats, dash, engine and trans were built by Magna.

Daddy started the company as a new immigrant from Austria, back in the 60‘s. Recently he has begun to buy up horse racing tracks, to further his Magna Entertainment empire, which includes a number of US casinos. He is one of the most wealthy men in either Canada, or the USA.

his daughter is 37, a twice divorced mother of two kids. Her salary last year with Magna was about 8 million dollars. She has now resigned her position with Magna, to run for the leadership of the new Conservative Party. she has been endorsed by old school Conservatives like Bill Davis, Brian Mulroney, and Mike Harris.

It remains to be seen if she can secure enough delegates vote‘s to win the leadership race. Remember that the Liberals will most likely announce a General Election this Spring, so she has very little time to act.

My prediction? Too inexperienced, to young and too rich to be a serious candiadate for the leader‘s job. Maybe in a few years, but not this year. too soon.

Jim Bunting. Toronto.

She is inexperienced, but has worked in the back rooms of party for a long time. I hope she wins, as I think she has better chance of getting people off there butts and stop voting Liberal. She is more open in social values and that important to a lot of people. I think if new conservative is taken over by the reform boys, its going to be another 10 years or more Liberal rules. Harper is okay, but he very conservative in his social views and doesn‘t come across well on TV. And we all know you need to look to good on TV to get to the undecided votes.

Jim, fair points and you‘re most likely correct. Still, I‘m hoping for a bit of a shake up. Personally, I like that she isn‘t experienced in the machinations of our political system. That makes her unpredictable and possibly uncontrollable to the lobbyists. Both are factors I can appreciate. As for her personal life, I‘ve always thought that should remain as such. The one area people keep talking about that makes me smile is her wealth. Seeing as how the other candidates are paupers. As for her age, what does that have to do with it, where is it written that you have to be approaching retirement to be effective as a leader?

I‘m interested to see who she surrounds herself with and how she‘ll manage in debates. Honestly, I‘d love to have her as a PM. No way she could do any worse than our "experienced" leaders. All the better, she‘s almost expected to fail, adds more responsibility to the mix, something which is lacking in spades.

Going to be an interesting race.

She is a new face which is what our political landscape needs badly. With someone from the Alliance/Reform party at the helm I cannot see the New Conservatives making much progress in Atlantic Canada after anti maritimer remarks by some of the former Reform/Alliance party members over the last number of years.

I dunno..she‘s for same-sex marriages...so i dont like.

So shortbus if she gave a dramatic increase (unlikely but I am being hypothetical) to DND you would not vote for her because of same sex?

Short - Try the big picture, to vote for a candidate over one issue is a tad weak. Besides, anything emotional such as that will always have the courts in a fluster for some time to come. Besides, if you don‘t want to marry your boyfriend, no one‘s making you :D

Gentelmen"
I noticed this morning that John Tory, who ran a close second in last November‘s Toronto mayoralty race, has indicated he MAY be in the running for the leadership of the new Conservative Party. He intends to be at Niagara falls this weekend for the convention.

Mt Tory has a pretty good record in the business world, his last position was as a senior V.P with Rogers Communications/Cantel cellular.

He was also one of the past presidents of the CFL.

Also a long time "back room" conservative party supporter, with good connections to the old guard, as well as the younger set.

Should offer a realistic altenative to MS Stronach.
