Any body else hear off the hostage taking in a prison in North Western Ontario? Apparently there is a heavily armed tactical team there. Do u guys think it could be JTF2? does canada have any other tactical teams?
Tactical teams are fairly common. Most major city police forces have a tactical team, the RCMP have Emergency Response Teams (ERT), provincial police forces have a tactical team and as was already mentioned, major prisons have a tactical team. With all of this law enforcement capability, the chances of JTF2 being called out for this type of role is farily insignificant. It is also difficult when most of these teams wear the same type of black ninja outfit.
I got this information from the news this afternoon. I though it might be some type of special tactical team because the police would not say anything about them and they did not show any pictures of the team or anything.
It‘s also likely the television crews were not allowed inside the prison (and thus, there wouldn‘t be any TV coverage from inside the prison/jail walls).
In Ontario the OPP call their teams TRU = "Tactical Response Unit". In Quebec the SQ calls theirs GI = "Groupe d‘Intervention". Toronto‘s is the ETF = "Emergency Task Force".
The prisons/jails only call in outside help when their own teams can‘t handle the situation (and keep in mind, the outside teams are not usually as familiar with the terrain/layout of the prison).
