Good day fellow Canadians,
A few questions popped up into my head while i wait. I was hoping one of you hoomans could answer it for me. But before that I'll give a back story :
Back in 2016 I enrolled as Reg force. Served 6 years. Releasing October 2022.
As much as people hate it and or say it's trash I miss the days in Petawawa. I was Armoured but OJT'd to vehicle tech because I was trying to OT to that trade. Released after 6 years because they never could accept my OT.
Last year in August I reapplied this time as an airforce trade. Was told no worries it's under 5 years we got cha. Expect a call in sept for your medical.
September came and went.
Its now January, I called recruiter no answer. Emailed. No answer.
So I called the province over and he helped me out. And made some file changes.
Decided to change my Career choice for now to Reserves. But as Vehicle tech. Eventually I'll get back in as Reg force.
Right now I work a full time job as a mechanic for heavy equipment.
Now the questions:
Whats life like in reserves?
Can I choose in the summer time for more " shifts " opposed to the winters Tuesday night parade and 1 weekend a month ? I just don't want it to affect my fulltime as i am going to school and back home trying to work on family.
Whats pay like and how do they tax you?
is there benefites and how are they ?
ill be going in as a cpl. Will I have to do plq for mcpl and if so how does that work while having a full-time? Does the rank of MCPl carry over if I CT?
Also how am I trained for vehicle tech when I only am offered a few shifts a month ?
