Given how the public acts towards him anytime he dares walk outside among us mere peasants, I'm going to have to assume he WILL require a personal protection detail for a long time yet...

Saw the above about RCMP personal protection in another thread...

Maybe best to reply here.

RCMP is responding to ‘unprecedented’ threats against MPs, officials

Solution seems to be to hire more officers.

More members are being recruited to meet the demand.

Maybe if they removed the cause of everyone's angst with Parliament, the threats would stop.

People don't just wake up with a hate on for politicians. Politicians have provided the reason.

I really shouldn't comment but....

If someone said to others face to face what is said from behind a keyboard there would be a ton of lost teeth and broken noses.

Political fanatics went on progressive discipline at work. Guys argued instead about sports.

Off duty, if cornered by one, easiest just to say, "ok" .

We abhor violence now, remember ?

It was simpler when a few punches were traded and it was over.

After rope stores...

I got a death threat from a total stranger the other day by simply saying I didn't want to be an American.

The internet is one thing. Best to avoid engaging with angry strangers in real life. Just going to get them even more riled up. I just nod and say, "ok."

There were occasional brawls in the stations, in the early years. But, as far as I can recall, never over politics.

Almost always over who was "first up".

There was one notorious folding metal chair duel. But, that was long, long ago.

MPs advised to lock office doors, avoid meetings as death threats skyrocket

If an appointment with a constituent is necessary, Members or their employees should consider virtual meetings for the foreseeable future,” Sergeant-at-Arms Patrick McDonell wrote in a memo.

The RCMP spokesperson explained the difference between , "Awful, but lawful" behavior.

I'd like to see a ranking of politicians receiving the most threats. Depending, it may help indicate which politician and which party is held in the least regard. I'm not advocating for more threats. Any threat on someone's life should be taken seriously and investigated if at all possible.

Not sure that is wise for a variety of reasons.
Depending, it may help indicate which politician and which party is held in the least regard.
Not sure that metric holds any water. I would argue it could indicate which side is more prone to violence. But there are also plenty of internal forces in each party unhappy with someone of their own stripe. It could also indicate how many disturbed people are out there regardless of political colour.

Agreed.

Geez, my dasher of dreams strikes again. If I can't wish, I might have to go sit on an ice flow.
