Yup. The city of Whitehorse is the navigable head of the river in terms of continuous sailing without a portage. It’s named for the rapids where the city was founded, which looked ‘like the mane of a white horse”. Prospectors would come in via Skagway, Alaska, over the White Pass into Canada (which is now a beautiful drive), and then to Whitehorse. From there they got in steamers to Dawson City downriver.
