Naval Reserve coming to Whitehorse YT?

And the Yukon river is navigable for over 1200 miles... Yukon River summary | Britannica

Yup. The city of Whitehorse is the navigable head of the river in terms of continuous sailing without a portage. It’s named for the rapids where the city was founded, which looked ‘like the mane of a white horse”. Prospectors would come in via Skagway, Alaska, over the White Pass into Canada (which is now a beautiful drive), and then to Whitehorse. From there they got in steamers to Dawson City downriver.

Incredible part of the country, for those who’ve ever wondered about visiting.

I did an inspection run on the Yukon Queen II, a fast cat on the river running from Dawson to Eagle and back, the Captain had all the pilot notes from the original steamboat Captains and was constantly updating them as the river banks and bars shifted. Was neat to see the history on and around the river.
