Hi,

Conrad (Ted) Shaddock was my father, he died in 1969, before I was born, after completing his tour of duty. He was a paratrooper and was a member of the Devil's Brigade. If anyone knew him or has any photos, stories, etc I would really appreciate speaking to them. He would be around 85 years old now were he alive.

Thanks for any help. :cdn:

There are several ways to get info.  You will need info to request more.  You will need his full name, his Service Number, the Unit he was in and his Birthdate.

You can try the Public Archives of Canada  http://www.archivescanada.ca/english/index.html

You may find some help from your local Royal Canadian Legion, http://www.legion.ca/asp/docs/home/home_e.asp

Department of Veterans Affairs,  http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/general/

and Department of History and Heritage at DND.  http://www.forces.ca/hr/dhh/engraph/home_e.asp

The CFB Petawawa Military Museum and Canadain Airborne Forces Museum, in CFB Petawawa, Ontario, has the 1 SSF Collection in it.  You may find info there.
Name: CFB Petawawa Military Museum

Mailing Address:

PO Box 9999 Stn Main Petawawa ON K8H 2X3

Telephone: 1-613-588-6238

There is, I believe, a 1 SSF Museum in the State of Vermont, also.

Another source could be ARAC and a couple of Canadian Airborne sites:

Wow. Overwhelming number of research directions. Thanks very much for the reply and letting me know what I need George.

Would still be interested if anyone possibly knows of, for example, a living family member who was also in the Devil's Brigade who may have known him (slim chance I realise, but life has its interesting surprises sometimes).
