Another Bad Headline for Malaysia Airlines—Plane Goes Wrong Way
Yahoo Travel Editors
December 27, 2015

Malaysia Airlines made yet another unfortunate headline on Christmas Eve when a flight taking off from Auckland, New Zealand to Kuala Lumpur flew in the wrong direction because air traffic control was given the wrong flight plan.

The New Zealand Herald reported the pilot of flight MH132 questioned the route the A330 was told to take.

Malaysia Airlines confirmed in a statement that there was a problem with the flight plan.

“On December 24th 2015 our flight MH132 from Auckland to Kuala Lumpur was given the latest flight plan by the airline’s Operations Dispatch Centre (ODC) whilst Auckland’s Air Traffic Control (ATC) was inadvertently given an earlier flight plan.
Both routes were following an approved flight path and the aircraft had enough fuel for both routes. The safety of both passengers and crew were never compromised at any time. Malaysia Airlines is currently conducting its investigation in the flight plan

(...SNIPPED)

Geepers, that airline just can't catch a break...

The only story here is because that particular airline has a bad rap.  These sorts of ATC issues happen quite frequently.  The crew rejected what ATC offered and told them what they really wanted filed.  End of story.

That airline is mirroring what Malaysia is becoming, you get hired because of your race, not whether your competent.

I will echo what Ditch said- this is a non-story. It happens all the time that ATC will issue different clearances than what you file. It is up to the crew to question it and they have the ultimate authority to accept or reject the clearance.
