Hi everyone,

There is something really bothering me while I am still waiting for the result of security screening for joining CAF.

I got hit by a car when it just started in California in May 2024, it hit my left leg. I did X-ray, MRI and CT scan, just to figure out what happened to my leg and whether I am still qualified to join CAF.

Here are some concerns of the diagnotics reports:

MRI:
1. Single low-grade oblique chondral fissure +/- flap tear involving the lateral patellar facet.
2. No meniscal tear.
3. Intact cruciate and collateral ligaments.

SPECT:
1. Foci of bone remodeling in the feet, moderately active medial left midfoot, presumably stress reaction/posttraumatic given the age of the patient rather than developing arthritis but not excluded. More lowgrade foci in the great toe regions.
2. No active bone remodeling around the knees to suggest bony contusion or healing fracture.

I am still waiting for the CT scan report, my questions are:

1. Will the knee injury DQ me?
2. Will the potential feet bones bruising or fracture DQ me?
3. Can anyone find medical standards of CAF regarding of bones, joints? I read some articles saying that ununited fractures can DQ candidates, but not sure about my condition.

Thank you guys so very much!

No one can answer your questions because evaluation of medical fitness is based on the unique circumstances of each individual. However, since you have already completed your medical (though it may have expired post one year), you are obligated to inform medical authorities at the recruiting det about any change in your medical status. Being in an MVA and receiving injuries as a result is a change in your medical status.

thank you for your reply.
based on what my doctor said about my knee, the injury should be really small, too small to affect the application, but still i need to do physios and maybe even injection.
Will I need my doctor's notes to the medical team in CAF? I mean not only my family doctor, but the specialist of my injury.

Recruiting medical standards are different than serving medical standards. Only the RMO can decide whether you will be fit to serve or not. All I can say your health history as reported in your post will likely require a Family Doctor letter from CFRC so your doctor/specialist can give the CAF your prognosis. Even if I was secretly the RMO masquerading on army.ca I wouldn't be able to tell you definitively with having your file in front of me. Your leg is still attached to your body? Then you can apply and find out. Be warned that you should make sure you are completely healed at the time of your medical or you will be told your application is on pause until you get cleared by your physician. At BMQ there are no allowances for "I don't feel well" or "my leg hurts today so I am not doing the march or the obstacle courses". If you are too hurt to do an activity then it is off to the CDU with you, and potentially a re-course.
