Here‘s another story from the newspapers - any comments?

Army group takes off - Grievance board faces 500-strong backlog
Canada‘s soldiers now have their very own labour relations board -- and there is already a backlog of 500 cases for it to wade through.
The Canadian Forces Grievance Board officially began operations yesterday and will hear complaints regarding pay, harassment and promotion problems based on claims of discrimination.
Unlike the military ombudsman‘s office set up a couple of years ago to investigate claims of wrongdoing and chain-of-command issues, the board will not accept complaints directly from individuals and will only handle matters referred by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Maurice Baril.
THE RULES
But chairman Paul-Andre Masse said the defence chief will be required by the rules to refer most grievances that cannot be resolved through the chain of command.
Most of the board‘s hearing will be in secret and individuals will not be identified, but in cases of great public interest they could be done in public, Masse said.
The quasi-judicial board can subpoena witnesses, but its rulings will not be binding, although Baril will have to provide reasons if he ignores a decision, said Masse.
Meanwhile, a task force set up by Baril to review findings that soldiers tried to poison their warrant officer is to deliver its findings tomorrow.

This is great!! At last a system of recourse within the system. I see only one problem. Why can‘t these problems be sorted out at the lower levels in the chain of command? A 500 case backlog? This sounds worse than the Ontario Human Rights Commission. In a nutshell, it may sound good, but the process will probably take forever before one‘s redress is ever heard. Just more old-fashioned mind boggling frustration.

To further add to the above. This comment will be rather tongue in cheek. It‘s funny how one will have to go to the "Army Labour Board" for various career issues, meanwhile if you want your manhood removed and replaced with female genitalia, the Army will pay for it gladly at a $20,000.00 price tag. I wonder what‘s cheaper, promoting Corporal Bloggins to Sergeant with retro pay because the clerk messed up, or a sex change.
