MEASUREMENT OF DIFFUSE EMISSIONS FROM THE FIRING OF CANNONS DURING MILITARY TRAINING EXERCISES.
This cancels and supersedes the previous Request for Proposition no. W7701-071924/A, dated September 10, 2007 which was due at
02:00 p.m. on September 25, 2007.
Background information:
The measurement of diffuse emissions (primarily air pollutants) from the firing of cannons into the ambient air poses a major analytical challenge. The three most important limiting factors to be considered are the difficulty sampling near the source of emissions due to the vibrations and shock waves from cannon firing, the rapid dispersion of emissions in the ambient air-dispersion depends on atmospheric conditions, and the presence of species to be measures in very low concentrations. In addition, the large number of chemical products of a different nature emitted during firing requires a wide variety of analytical techniques, thereby complicating the analytical aspect of the project.
The objectives of the work are to:
- Develop a method for directly sampling gas emissions at the cannon muzzle; (and)
- Measure gaseous and particulate emissions at the cannon muzzle for several types of munitions.
Details of the services required for DRDC Valcartier are described in the Statement of Work provided in Annex A of the resulting Contract.
