Useful background for all - imagine if everyone in teh Army read this book - you`d know more about where we could go in the future

Check it out at http://www.wesjones.com/lawrence1.htm

I've got my copy of the pillars right next to me and I lug it around everywhere I go.

He's a bit of an oddity but we could use a few Lawrences today.

If you're interested in Lawrence you can also download Michael Asher's biography of Lawrence from his web site http://www.lost-oasis.org/

Asher - a former Para and reserve SAS soldier - is something a gadfly who authored the expose revealing the exaggerated claims/outright distortions of Andy McNabb's bestselling book Brave Two Zero, (Asher's book was entitled the Real Bravo Two Zero).

He also hosted a pretty fascinating TV doc retracing Lawrence's Arabian adventures and made two controversial conclusions about the Seven Pillars - that   Lawrence lied about a famous (Neguib?) desert crossing in which he claimed to have made in record time, and that he had not been beaten and sexually assaulted by a Turkish officer in Deraa as claimed in the memoir.

His most recent work - entitled Get Rommel! - is another attempt at exposing the truth/facts of the famous North African Raid on Rommel in 1941 (which I remember from the opening scene of the old black and white biopic movie of Rommel starring James Mason.) It's a great read. cheers, mdh
