A question...are CF members, particularly those deployed, checked for giardia.

This is a very pervasive protozoa that can really slow you down!

You get checked if you get signs and symptoms.  We used to do stool samples on pretty much all people coming back from places abroad, not routinely anymore.

And giardia is more prevalent amongst backwoods campers in northern Ontario then it would be for anyone who is deployed.

Petawawa. we get cases every summer and fall from people who don't properly cleanse their water or after swallowing mouthfuls of water during camping, canoing, or whitewater trips.

We used to have a real problem around Calgary and Kananaskis/Banff - the stuff was practically in the wells of some folks.  Small problem too - it's quite chlorine resistant, so you have to have a very fine water filter to get rid of the little creepy crawlies.
