I really do not want to be facetious here, because a lost pilot is no joke.

However I am out of my element (some leniency please) so, could someone explain to me how a "stealth plane" "falls off air traffic control radars"?

Do they have a transponder that is on when just training?

Just for my own education, please.

You answered your own question. The aircraft would have a transponder that would show up on ATC radars. In a wartime situation, of course, the transponder would be turned-off.

The aircraft's location is the Cantwell area around 100 miles from Anchorage. SAR is probably on the ground now and the search for the pilot is ongoing. Hope the pilot made it out and he can stay warm.

Update: No sign of the pilot at the crash site.Search effots will resume at first light.

CAPT Haney did not survive the crash accroding to the USAF. It will be a tough holiday season for his young family. :salute:
