Does anyone know if you can elect to take your IPR during IREM?

I recently got my disclosure package for a medical release and am hoping to request POR/IREM. The relocation directive says that at any time during POR you can elect for your IPR... but then for IREM you are subject to postings... which seems contradictory.

Does anyone know how IPR will work with IREM? I was hoping to get posted back home and start VPRSM for the final 6 months of my career but that would require me to be at my IPR.

Thank you!

you may want to hold off on the IPR then. IPR is simply selecting your intended place of residency on release which then enables you to move your family with HGE to that location. It does not have any actual bearing on your posting and could have negative impacts. Regulations have changed over the years but there was a case a while back where the member did that and then tried to get IR with SE as he wasn't posted. It was denied as he was not separated due to the military, he was separated due to his choice to move his family prior to release. This left him paying for two residences while begging to be posted. Also I believe the entitlements on a release posting are still different than a regular posting. Knew a WO in the late 90s that was moved on release, stressed to the agent several times it was a release but she still paid him as if it was a regular posting. When the file was audited a few months later he received a bill for approx $50k that he wasn't entitled to. He was going to redress it to make a point, don't know if he went through with it.
