"A few of the rigid standards of the U.S. military are being eased with each passing day of the coronavirus outbreak, and for some sailors, one change could have a visible effect: They may be able to have longer hair.

On Wednesday night, the Navy announced that it was giving commanding officers discretion to temporarily relax grooming guidelines for men’s and women’s hair length to help maintain social distancing to prevent the spread of the virus."

Probably cowering in fear with Shakira over getting sued for $820 trillion for forcing some guy to watch her "pornographic" Superbowl halftime show.

Well, I'm long retired but kept my hair relatively short. But I need a haircut and its off the table for now, and might be for months, so the big decision is - man-bun or pony tail?

Unless you are a samurai, no man bun.

Dammit, my crew finally got allowed to wear beards, and now we have to shave them for proper respirator fit. I can’t fault the decision, but it’s personally inconvenient to me.

The amount of bitching and moaning I'm hearing about this...incredible. People don't get this isn't just a "them" issue, if their mask doesn't seal because of a beard and they are exposed, they end up exposing their entire crew, plus whoever hands off shift with them, plus their family, plus, plus...

At least with fentanyl/carfentanyl it would be Darwin at work, this isn't.

Yup. Bored troops complain.

Welcome to the Navy circa 2009.

Nothing more fun than bumping into a sailor, saying "Nice beard.  It's been a long time since you've been to sea, right?"

When this is over, one of the first things I plan to do is go for a haircut. Not because someone tells me to. Just for the pleasure of it.

I've been going to the same place every two weeks for as long as I can remember. The shop is nothing fancy, and neither is my haircut. Just the same old 1950s style trim, with a straight razor down the back of the neck.

My wife cut my hair the other day, but she's not an expert.

Next, I'll book an appointment with my RMT, and get back into that pleasurable routine.

Also, looking forward to resuming the regular get togethers with other retired co-workers.

It's the simple things you miss!

OK people, let's get real. All the barbers in town are closed. I have no way to get a haircut.
And they are talking about being confined to your home for months except for shopping for essentials. I'm already looking scruffy.  :( Some genius got an answer for this.

Return of the bowl haircut?

You could just shave it all off, then let it start growing back in. You'll likely be presentable when we're let back outside. :dunno:

I’m letting it grow. Not much choice.
