Component Transfer ( CT ) - Reserve to Regular

Questioning my choices here.. Military is my long term career goal but I wouldn't mind getting a taste of it through the reserves. My friend (Who's in the reserves) says that CT's (Going from Reserve to Regular force) takes longer than going from civilian to regular force.

Is this true?

Absolutely, positively....YES.

Take my word for it.

They do but don't let that stop you from joining the reserves. Benefits outweigh that negative.

Unless you're planning to spend a year in the Reserves then CT. Then you're wasting the Reserves time and your time.

See this thread on CTing to the Reg Force: http://army.ca/forums/threads/12797.0

As mentioned above, there is no way to compare the waiting times for the two.  CTs can take anywhere from 2 months to 5+ years.

Take it from a guy who finally got his offer after having his CT in for 18+ months. Aim for Reg Force, don't bother with the reserves. If I could do it again I would go straight Reg Force.

Quick question here, just looking for some replies and honest feedback.

I have recurring thoughts of leaving civilian law enforcement for full-time military employment. I know that the trend is usually the opposite, but, c'est la vie.

I am 27. I am currently on the way to completing AOC and will have approximately ten years service with the Reserves this year.

Is component transfer to the Regular Force a REALISTIC option at this stage of my life? Assuming I could make it into my trade, would I be able to take Phase IV, or would I be considered 'too far along?' And the question is similar if I went into another Combat Arm. Would I be able to take my Phase III and start fresh from there, albeit having all these staff courses?

Thoughts? Looking for honest feedback.

I recently heard back about CTs and it's not a good year. I was told that the 2014-2015 trained CT applications have already been chosen, and the guy above me (for the trained CT list) has had his CT in for 2 years longer than me. And I've had mine in for over 1 year and a half  :boring:

I wonder at what point CT applicants give up and either say: forget the Reg Force or forget the military period and find other employment.

I don't know about the Officer side of the house.  If I were you I'd contact DMCPG (I think that's the right alphabet soup) and ask.

Got my offer for combat eng today, from infantry. Depending on when DP1 starts I'm either out of here early next month or cooling my jets making reg force money with my home unit until there is a course available. Life is good.

How much time did it take you to get the offer ?

I put it in early October this time around. Previously I had one in in June and got an offer the next January.

For those who are still waiting, are you able to check EMAA > MyCareer and find information regarding the current status of your CT? or do you just inquire by emailing a PSO at DMCPG-5 directly? Cheers.

I don't think CT information is available through EMAA but apparently "VOT" information is.

Your best bet, just email your "CT Broker" and I am sure they will respond back to you.

You can email the positional mailbox.

What's the best course of action to take if I haven't even been contacted yet? I put my CT in last August for MP. I was sent an e-mail once to update my fitness test, did my BFT a couple days later. They (I forget the email address, think it was D MIL C7 at the time) told me to e-mail them whenever I had an updated test. I did, but of course, received that automated "we are understaffed right now and your messages will be responded to in order of priority." Nothing heard since.

So... is there a specific mailbox I e-mail requesting an update, or to see if they've forgotten to update my file re: updated fitness test? My MPRR is updated and has been for a while, not sure if that matters or not.

Hi, I have been in the infantry reserves for 6 years and am looking to do a CT over to reg force armored. What I'm hoping to find out is if there is anything I need to have for them to look at my file and I would also like to hear some experience's people have had as armoured to get a better picture of what to expect during the job and in the training. If anyone could offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

A splendid head of hair, a healthy dose of derring-do, and an impeccable (if indecipherable) sense of timeliness.
