Canada apologizes for sending official to Russian embassy party

Maintenance of diplomatic relations is necessary, even (perhaps especially) when there's a war.
Allowing an embassy, it's staff, and an ambassador to remain in Canada, within the parameters of the Vienna Convention is one thing; having a GoC official attending a soiree at an embassy of a nation committing war crimes by the hour is entirely another.

This will see Canada tarred with the same brush as Germany, France, and anyone else playing both sides of the fence. It's reprehensible.

What kind of dense motherfucker thought this was a good idea? Really undermines the "hard-line" stance being pushed out of the PMO.
Ummm, same ones who authorized a contracted spec ops ISR aircraft to ‘not explicitly surveil’ the Freedom Convoy, when the RCAF was ordered to stay away from the event? 🤔

Terrible optics on this one. Its not going to go well with the public.
Canadians are an apathetic bunch. There might be a few days of "harrumph" ing and outrage, then they'll just roll over, bite the pillow and take it dry, just like every other time. Clearly the Klown Kollege on the hill has figured that out by now. Lather, rinse, repeat.

While I suppose the Minister is ultimately responsible, what boneheaded bureaucrat in the mouse maze at Global Affairs thought this was a good idea? Of course, the kneejerk PR response is to defend bad decisions until they are undefendable.

Maintaining diplomatic channels is one thing - attending a party is quite another.
