Calif. Guard Targeted Over Pig-Blood Flier

Wed Jul 13, 8:45 AM ET

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Islamic leaders and peace groups are criticizing the California National Guard for a flier posted in its headquarters suggesting the United States execute Islamic terrorists with bullets dipped in pig's blood to deny them entry to heaven.

The flier attributed the practice to World War I General John J. Pershing.

"Maybe it is time for this segment of history to repeat itself, maybe in
Iraq?" the flier stated. It was posted outside a cubicle in the Guard's Civil Support Division.

A second flier showed the wings and tail of a bomber forming a peace sign with the slogan, "Peace the old fashioned way."

Also posted was a cartoon from a Web site showing a Red Crescent ambulance stuffed with weapons and a caricature that looks like the late-Palestinian leader
Yasser Arafat unloading the weapons.

Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Doug Hart at first defended the postings to the San Jose Mercury News, which reported them Tuesday, but Hart later said they had been removed.

Peace activists spotted the fliers during a tour last week.

The tour came after peace groups and a state senator questioned whether a new Guard unit had been formed to spy on U.S. citizens and had monitored a Mother's Day anti-war rally. A federal investigation of the allegations is underway.

"It's troubling to see a governmental organization dedicated to the security of our country promoting culturally and religiously insensitive ideas," said William Youmans, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Santa Clara. "It's very possible to combat terrorism without offending the cultural values of a major world religion."

The Israelis currently (or perhaps, formerly) practiced this type of idea in buses, to deter suicide bombers, correct? Or is that a myth?

Or maybe the idea that you will go to heaven and be surrounded by virgins (unless stymied by a certain mammals blood) on a bullet hits you is a myth...

Not sure these California boys know their own history - Pershing was quite far behind the lines and often criticised for focussing on Marksmanship alone vs the latest weaponry that the manpower poor allies had. These same critics often forget that the US ran the logistics from Paris - Le Havre to the Mediterranean -

but these types of comments are often found in the historical record for Canada,

Canada has a strong history of running the bad name of the enemy down even farther

Look around the warm up trg and Div sports days prior to the 8th Aug 1918 Operation Landovery Castle on the 4th Cdn Div War Diary on the National Archives Website

http://data4.collectionscanada.ca/netacgi/nph-brs?s1=4th+Canadian+Division&s13=&s12=&l=20&s9=RG9&s7=9-52&Sect1=IMAGE&Sect2=THESOFF&Sect4=AND&Sect5=WARDPEN&Sect6=HITOFF&d=FIND&p=1&u=http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/02015202_e.html&r=3&f=G

and you should come a cross a few blood thirsty speeches.

The Llandovery Castle was a 600 patient Hospital Ship that was torpedoed by a U Boat June 27, 1918 by a rogue (my words) Submariner with only four survivors of the crew, seven officers, fourteen nursing sisters, and seventy-six other ranks. The reason was that the sub sunk the hospital ship despite clear markings and then shelled the survivors.

Most or all of the non ship pers were Cdn medics see http://www.gwpda.org/naval/lcastl11.htm

2 Cdn Books - It made you Think of Home by Bruce Caine and Only this by James Pedley (both of the Cdn Infantry and if you all don`t have these books in your personal library you have a huge gap) refer to the Llandovery Castle Speeches to "take no prisoners"
