You can start here and order his service record:

Find the particulars of his record here:
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/02010602_e.html

How to order copies of First World War service files
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/0201060101_e.html#consult

Once you have his service record (it takes about 4 weeks to get it from the Archives, and 40 cents per page), you will find that his record of service will give you a good idea of where he was throughout the war.

Next, you can find the War Diaries for his unit(s) here:

You might also find additional research advice here:

Hi kpduties,

My grandfather, too, was in the 122nd. battalion in 1917 and ultimately placed in 43 company of the forestry corps.
You mentioned the Muskoka regiment and grandfather was in the Lambton regiment.
I followed your previous replier's suggestion to look at the 'war diaries' but found no respones to all the dates I submitted.
How did you fare?

From earlier in the thread

Next, you can find the War Diaries for his unit(s) here:
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/020152_e.html

Use FORESTRY as the unit name - several items come up. But if not your relative`s units it suggests the units in question were amalgamated.

You might try the listing for the 4th or 5th district - which could lead you to inspection reports of the various companies.

As I suspected - here is the background on the 43rd Company which links to your 122 Bn Muskoka boys..  http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e060/e001479120.jpg

Enjoy! :)

Hi everyone. I'm new here but I was surprised to find information on this subject. Sorry to the op but I had a question about the 122nd. MY dad came across a medal or pin i'm not sure but it had the 122nd muskoka battalion on it and I was curious if you could give me some information on it.

Thanks, sam

Hmm, without seeing it is kind of hard to tell what it is  ;D

Seriously if it is a pin, I suspect it may be what is known as a sweetheart pin.

Hello kpduties,

It has been considerable time since I last looked at the website and I see things regarding this topic that are somewhat hazy in my recollection.
Suffice it to say that Jura Group and Switzerland do not appear in the 'war diary' of the 43rd coy.
However, for those searching for the actual 'war diary' it can be found on the collectionscanada website and the microfilm obtained through any library as follows:
RG9 Militia and Defence Series III-D-3
Volume 5017 Reel T-10868
File: 755 Access Code 90
Parts 2
File Title - War Diaries-Headquarters N. 4 District- Canadian Forestry Corps
Outside dates - 1917/07/01 - 1919/03/31
Finding Aid Number 9-52

Hopefully, this helps anyone out there learning about 43 coy.
