Help with learning about Electronic Communication Systems

Thanks very much, Sig Op; these PDFs look like they'll be a big help. The text book seems to take certain knowledge for granted, and it's been a while since I used radians, logarithms, or voltage :) (plus, I've never really been able to conceptualize voltage)

Help with learning about Electronic Communication Systems

Hello everyone, I'm currently in the application process to eventually become an ACISS tech (running injury has had me out of commission for the past few months; finally sent in my medical forms so I could finish applying). As I've got a lot of time on my hands at the moment, I wanted to get a...

    Arizona Congresswoman shot

Putting "progressives" in quotations is the silliest passive-aggressive insult I've seen. Give people a snarky label, and you can discount their opinions without discussing them. Also: Socialist, fascist, communist, liberal, right-wing, etc.

Army Communication & Information Systems Specialists (Sig Op, Lineman and LCIS Amalgamation)

I asked the recruiter on Tuesday, since he hadn't mentioned it when I first went there. He told me that, depending on the timing, I'd either be put into ACISS directly, or into one of the trades and then into ACISS. On a related note, handing in my application later today.

    Arizona Congresswoman shot

Jon Stewart's opening monologue on Monday was great. He avoided the comedy for the most part and went with some heartfelt words. http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/mon-january-10-2011-denis-leary (might only work in the US; I've got Firefox set up to trick sites like that into thinking...

    Putting on weight

Thanks for the advice everyone. A lot of great stuff here. I've been focusing on eating bigger meals; I measured my caloric intake and found out that a day of eating whenever I'm hungry gives me fewer than what is recommended. So I'm taking double servings of everything and eating even when...

    Chest pain when running?

I've got a bit of trouble with my running. After a few years of sedentary living, I've found that whenever I run I start getting pains in my chest. This ONLY happens when I run; I can bike at full speed, swim laps, walk for hours--all without any trouble whatsoever. But the moment I switch to...

    Putting on weight

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll continue to exercise, eat better, and get some protein supplement. I'll update this if/when I hit 130 lbs :)

    Putting on weight

I drank beer and ate pizza all through college; didn't gain a pound :( I guess I'll focus on eating whenever I'm not doing anything else, and stick to high-protein, high-fat stuff (while being sure to read the Canadian Food Guide to healthy eating :P )

    Putting on weight

Unfortunately, I'm lactose-intolerant. It's a recent thing; I haven't looked into solutions yet. Yogurt is fine, so I've been eating that. I'm using EA Sports Active 2 for Kinect right now for training; it's working better than I was able to by myself.

    Putting on weight

Yep :( To my everlasting shame, the cooking course I took back in high school didn't stick with me. On the plus side, I invented the "Beggel"--an unholy combination of bagel and egg-in-the-basket.

    Putting on weight

It's been worse than normal lately, though I've started improving it. I'm trying to stick to 3 squares a day now (since snacking keeps the metabolism going all day, burning off extra calories) but it doesn't always happen. Usually toast or a bagel with eggs in the morning, instant meal for...

    Putting on weight

I was wondering if anyone had some advice for putting on weight before my medical. I'm 22, male, about 5'9", 125 lbs right now, and I've never been heavier. I'm hoping that my training for the fitness exam will fill me out a bit, but exercise has never worked for me beforeĀ  :-\ Any tips?

Army Communication & Information Systems Specialists (Sig Op, Lineman and LCIS Amalgamation)

From earlier in the thread: CST- Communication System Technologist IST - Information Systems Technologist LST - Line Systems Technologist So IST is the LCIS spec, LST is the Linseman spec, and CST is the equivalent of SigOp? Also, why is SigOp having such trouble with recruitment? Is it a...

Army Communication & Information Systems Specialists (Sig Op, Lineman and LCIS Amalgamation)

Sorry, when I said I "preferred deployment to Computer Administration duties", I meant that I prefer to be deployed instead of getting Computer Admin duties. It sounded right in my head, but the "to" kind of made it ambiguous. Glad I'll be fluent in French. Guess I'll stick to private courses...

Army Communication & Information Systems Specialists (Sig Op, Lineman and LCIS Amalgamation)

Thanks very much. Are there courses to learn more of the tech stuff if I specialize in SigOp? I like the idea of "being able to take apart, fix, and put back together everything" (in the words of the recruiter), but I would prefer deployment to Computer Administrator duties. Also, how often...

Army Communication & Information Systems Specialists (Sig Op, Lineman and LCIS Amalgamation)

Before anyone suggests it, I have used the search and scoured the forums for posts. Unfortunately, most of what I found is full of acronyms and initialisms I am not familiar with so I'm hoping to get some simplified information. I spoke with a recruiter yesterday about joining, and he mentioned...
