made a bad choice want to go home

Stay in and finish your time. If you get out now and go to school and think your world is a lot better just remember when you start looking for your career people will ask why you quit the army. If you quit them you might quit this job so I wasted my money training you and you quit on me. Do...

CIC (Air) Scarlet Beret on Logistik

The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment cadets wear the red beret because the unit used to. The reserve unit no longer wears it because when the army reorganized the MP's claimed the red beret. The cadets carry on our old tradition along with the veterans.

    Least appealing Aspects of Infantry

I hear a lot of "no water re-sup's" being listed but I have to admit the best part of the job is getting the contaminated water as the only water you can drink for 10+ days then after everyone is sick being told "don't drink the water it may be contaminated." Ahhh good ol Fort Knox....

    Oral communication

I have seen many quiet people join up and spend two or three years just doing what they are told and not speaking up but usually when they find a good group to work with they tend to speak out. I know many of our best troops started out as very quiet before stepping forward and taking the lead...

    sq - new kit?

the only thing you will probably be issued are items that you didn't get issued when you first got your kit but most likely you won't receive anything new.

    Breaking in new boots

I have NEVER heard of insoles being contrabrand. I tell all my recruits to buy the best insoles they can afford and if they can't to use the ones the military issue them as long as they HAVE insoles. They are your feet and you can't replace them, so do everything you can now to protect them.

    army reserves BMQ

you can do all 3 in one summer but those courses are getting more rare. In 33 we ususally run BMQ SQ in the summer or SQ BIQ. I usually recommend people do their BMQ in the fall to spring so that when they go away in the summer they can come away fully trained but every unit is different. Call...

    Missing First weekend of BMQ

Hey Buck,   Take two deep breaths, shake your head and relax. Your instructors are not out to torture you they are there to teach you. I've had many students show up on the second day and my number 1 priority was getting them set in and caught up not how much I can try and get them to quit...

    SITREP ON MILITIA INFANTRY UNITS

frustration setting in eh? Well my advice is to relax a little you the world isn't crashing in on itself. Every unit in every brigade is different some things get pushed down from brigade (ie support weapons being sent to courses) but for the most part your unit makes decisions on things like...

    Another "glasses" question...

as a former vision impaired person I can give you all the info I have from my experiances in the infantry with glasses. First off it sucks, rain, fog, dirt, gas training, winter training you will be hampered and at times completely ineffective. When I went up to the arctic I was literally blind...

    2 sets of stuff

every course I have ever been on and taught on has had someone bring their own hair cutting tools and as long as you don't break hair regs no one seems to mind. I have had a couple recruits ask me if they could and said go for it, I get my gf to do mine and all I have to do is buy her an...

    Reserve Infantry Training

I've never personally seen weekend BIQ's (and would be completely against them anyways!) and am in close contact with most the training in my area and there has been no mention of switching to a weekend BIQ format. It is one of those courses that requires the consequtive field time to gain the...

Infantry Reserve in Gagetown Infantry school

I was at the inf school this summer working with reg force from the RCR, PPCLI, and VanDoo and it was probably the greatest (sometimes stressful) experiance of my life. Working with other course staff who were all reg force the only time people threw out a reserve joke it was in good humour and...
