    Protected colours

Colours can be laid-up in any public building. There are colours in city halls and libraries although most end up in churches. There is no requirement for the church to be an Anglican church and, in Quebec, you will find many are laid-up in RC churches.

    Brigade Commander Capbadge?

It is a traditional badge 'Staff Officer's' badge going back to pre-world war one. In the days when Brigadiers were not considered to be 'Generals' they wore the same badge. It is worn today by Colonels who are not on the staff of a regiment. This means that most Colonels wear it but Colonels of...

    hand guns

As long as the CF have over 15,000 Brownings in stock, and a wastage rate of less than 500/year, there is no hope that Treasury Board will approve money to purchase ANY replacement pistol. Nice to dream though.

    "Canadian Infantry Corps" insignia

You have described the Winter Cap which was only worn in Canada, as well as the Canadian Infantry Corps cap badge. This badge was worn by unattached infantry soldiers who were undergoing infantry training at a Canadian Training Centre, or who had just finished the TC and were awaiting orders to...

    Regimental Numbers

I hope that this message does not contravene any forum rules. For the information of serious military geneologists and other researchers, Service Publications has just published "Regimental Numbers". This 64-page booklet lists all of the WWII Service Numbers, by block, and the Units to which...

May I suggest the "Canadian Militaria Directory & Sourcebook, 2nd Edition"? This fascinating directory lists over 1,000 ‘enterprises‘ of interest to the military/militaria enthusiast. Of the 21 categories, "Medals" includes many mounting services. Available for the paltry sum of CDN$14.95 plus...

    WWII Medals

Who am I to argue with "Canuck", world-reknowned author, reenactor, historian par excellence, webmaster to the uninformed uniformed and all-around man about town?!? I thought that the RCAMC colour was "Cherry"....I hope that is the correct spelling. Sorry Michael, I owed you one from some time...

    Armour Corps uniforms and equipement

Dwayne, Nobody seems to be picking up this thread so I will get it started. Regulations forbade the colouring of webbing during the war. This had as much to do with the fact that equipment salvaged from the battlefield could be sent for repair and re-issue anywhere as with the lack of desire...

    Wound Stripes

My father-in-law was a young 2LT in Korea when he went out on his first patrol. Three hours later he was carried in on the shoulders of a Cpl, wounded in both arms. He earned a wound stripe and a MiD. According to him the stripe was worn only in Korea (at least amongst the VanDoos). When he...

    Insignia

I only just got directed to this forum today (thanks Mike) so have missed out on some of the posts. The poster which I researched, designed and had printed has a couple of glaring errors*, one of which is repeated in an early post. The Armoured Brigade patches have a coloured bar on a BLACK...

The FN C1 - Service Rifle of the Past (and C7A1 vs FN C1A1)

To debate which firearm (or weapon system) is better is to overlook the reason behind the choices. It is battle doctrine that defines the army‘s weapons. Canadian battle doctrine has changed from the post-war European theatre/soviet threat to one that recognises that the Canadian Army must serve...
