Constraining Canadian Federal Budget during Post COVID Downturn

The agreement was to split the Atlantic Veterinarian College at UPEI in Charlottetown while the Agricultural College was established in Truro, NS. It's only the past 10 years (???) that Dalhousie University absorbed the Ag College.

Canadian Forces service members living in cars, unable to afford groceries

SCAN seminars insist that Pre-retirement planning begins at recruitment. Living here prepares our sailors for retirement living. ;)

Directives to military chaplains urge expunging God, religion from Remembrance Day, public ceremonies

An unwritten rule for most lower deck messes, the door was always open for the Padre, no need to request permission to enter, though most did so anyway. The Padres rarely invoked rank, preferring to address sailors one-on-one. I have not observed a Social Worker extended similar courtesies.

2022 CPC Leadership Discussion: Et tu Redeux

Through the 90s, PM Chrétien's government had to clean up and institute austerity spending , non-withstanding his spending on the 1995 Quebec referendum. It can be done, it's not popular or easy.

Allowances - Post Living Differential (PLD) [MERGED]

Ah...institutional memory loss. The current version of SDA / LDA / CASDA was created to streamline the benefits, make them cheaper and simpler to administrator, and bring all three closer in alignment with each other. These forums had full discussions on the implementation and right from the...

Canada needs a climate-emergency response team

I have to submit weekly reflections for my course. This discussion provided me--Nanos polls--with information to write this: Deflating Lead Balloons: Are Modern Proposals for Disaster Response Just Empty Air? Reflecting on the need for a national disaster response force, one cannot ignore the...

Canada needs a climate-emergency response team

The discussion often attempts to compare Public Safety Canada to FEMA. While the two hold similar mandates, ultimately their scope diverge in actually providing assistance during disasters. PSC is the federal coordination effort of preparedness, while provinces, local communalities and...

Canada needs a climate-emergency response team

Whelp, I have had a look at one version of the new Pers Mgmt software packages rolling out for volunteers of the HWF (Humanitarian Workforce) program funding, through Public Service Canada. (2022, and 2023). I can say, it's not the IRRPS or Phoenix pay systems. Which is ironic, as the system is...

Canada needs a climate-emergency response team

These are the arguments the NGOs are making for more federal funding, to enable them to develop the required CCC systems to minimize reliance on the CAF. Aside from ignoring private industry, the NGOs are also willfully ignoring the decades long decline in volunteer engagement pre-COVID. The...

Canada needs a climate-emergency response team

Following up on my initial post, I did attend the webinar. While the panelists are well spoken and educated, with the way the webinar was organized, I felt like it was a hard sell to convince attendees additional federal funding should be funneled to the major NGOs to take over from the CAF as...

Canada needs a climate-emergency response team

No need for sarcasm or cynicism, Public Safety Canada operates the Humanitarian Workforce Program (HWP), "to provide surge capacity in response to COVID-19 outbreaks and other large-scale emergencies" (Breton, 2023). The core potion of the HWP shifts the reliance on the CAF to respond to...

    Big Fires Around Halifax

NS issued an Emergency Alert province wide this evening, banning all open fires--including campgrounds--until June 25. I agree restrictions are required, yet I am still asking, what is going to improve in 3.5 week's time? This is still spring , the amount of deadfall and underbrush will remain...

    Big Fires Around Halifax

I am in contact with my DEM class discussing these wildfires. My observation is that the HRM , EMO and DNR response to this wildfire is an improvement over last fall and Hurricanes Fiona. Granted, a larger concentration of people are affected with these fires, but the lessons learned and...
