Sept 2023 UKR Vet Recognition Incident (merged from several threads)

The speaker effed up. He is to blame. The level of damage this caused though is something though the PM needs or needed to take the lead on. He took too long to appologize. He should have cancelled what ever he had on and shown up in the commons rather than follow his normal schedule. He...

Sept 2023 UKR Vet Recognition Incident (merged from several threads)

It’s a minority situation so I doubt any conservatives will stand. An NDP speaker though is an interesting bet. The CPC NDP and Bloc could make that happen. But…the deputy speaker is currently a conservative I think so they may just decide that he’s the best man for the job.

Also keep in mind that there are times when the opposition would rather have the government provide a speaker. Especially in close minority situations.

Months? Likely not. Weeks perhaps or at least weeks for only a very limited group of people. A visit like this is normally a lot of last minute scrambling due to the massive security concerns. I’m only guessing but the schedule could have just said « Speaker’s Remarks: 5 mins »

I doubt any counter will be made officially until the process to create an APP officially starts. It will definitely be precedent setting.

The Speaker said it was someone from his riding and he extended the invite. The HoC does not vet (ie background checks etc) who comes into the public galleries. Physical Security screening it’s all that happens. However the speaker has his own gallery which is his privilege. He can also...

    2023 UCP Alberta election

It’s the entity that is or will be a major stakeholder in any decision that Alberta will take. Again, what was biased about the observations? Are they wrong? If no then they should not be easily dismissed. Is the source biased? Possibly and probably but it’s their actual job to safeguard...

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/anthony-rota-ukrainian-veteran-1.6977384 The NDP are calling for the speaker to resign. Given the gravity of the error on his part as speaker I’m not sure how he can stay on in that role.

    2023 UCP Alberta election

Why would any of what is stated be safely dismissed? Are you saying it would not be disputed, isn’t complex and does not entail risk? Not involve political posturing? If you are please explain because he’s seems pretty much on point.

    2023 UCP Alberta election

Support numbers were low even before fairy take or realistic numbers were used. Not sure what those support numbers look like now. I personally have no issues with any province going their own way with this. I guess it’s a matter of what is realistic and why. The CPP is actually very well...

Sept 2023 UKR Vet Recognition Incident (merged from several threads)

The Speaker’s Gallery is exactly that. It falls under his responsibility and privilege. The management of the HOC is also his responsibility. That includes anything administrative and also security. So it’s quite possible and plausible the PMO had no knowledge of who was a guest there of the...

Need a few weeks of data to see if that is the case. PP has finally cracked the preferred PM poll so that also should be considered in the big picture.
