Actually, assault rifles are a thing.  Assault rifles are fully automatic capable rifles which fire a sub-powered rifle ammunition.  Assault rifles are already prohibited weapons in Canada. By contrast, "assault-style rifle" and "assault weapon" are meaningless terms.
