I'd say (experience is limited, though) that it's a M-249 slightly modified to be a personal (rather than a Squad) weapon.

The Stryker has been reported as both over weight & oversize.  The overweight means that (a) it can't carry a full combat load, or (b) the Herc has a range of less than 200 miles.  Those facts have been reported on newer, USAF Herc - would anyone care to guess how our somewhat older CC-130's...
