    2024 Wildfire Season

Hopefully the all this snow we are supposed to get this week will help with the fires.

    2024 Wildfire Season

I think we can move the fire season start date back a few weeks after the snow dump we had last night. The forecast said 25 cm and I believe it. I was out snow blowing the sidewalks for some of my neighbors this morning and the snow on the sidewalks was higher than my snowblower discharge in...

Got to love the renewable energy. Knocking out of the park today.

    Scope mount for SMLE

Those scopes are nice but my old eyes need more magnification than 2.5x. I will stick with the 3-9x for now. I am not sure I can justify spending a large amount on a scope for this rifle. It is only for plinking now since I don't use full power ammo anymore. I don't want to stress this 105 year...

    Hybrid Electric Vehicles

My Brother in law was shopping for a new vehicle last fall and found the thing. He ended up buying new. There were lots of electric cars sitting on the lots but he works out of town a lot so that wasn't a viable option.

    Hybrid Electric Vehicles

If you can't afford a new/er vehicle then you don't get any of those safety features which I believe was the point Colin was trying to make. I'm not sure where you live but in SK/MB/Northern BC I still see lots of 80/90s vehicles driving around because people either can't afford to replace them...

    Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Unfortunately by the time they put dual air bags, ABS, our crash protection standards and all the government required spyware/engine kill/drunk driving sensors/tire pressure sensors/back up camera etc the truck would cost $40,000 CDN or more. I would love it if they would build a truck like my...

Burglar Beaten With His Own Bat. Victim Charged

I don't see how you can say "without provocation". The guy threatened the clerk with bodily harm. That seems like provocation to me and like Furniture said that will be the only consequences for the dirtbag since the 'justice system' in this country won't do anything.

    Worldwide Energy Crisis

More trouble at the PEI government owned wind farm. Electricity production way down and 10 years after construction (not operation given the history of this wind farm) it appears the wind turbines are basically junk and the taxpayers will be left holding the bag...

    Cost of housing in Canada

I think you are correct that they were government inspectors and apparently they were very through. In those days the contractors would camp out in a finished house until the inspectors signed off that everything was good so they would get paid for their work. How times have changed.

    Cost of housing in Canada

It is interesting that there is little to no inspections. My Dad was a carpenter, he worked on the reserves in Northern SK and MB building houses in the 60s and 70s. At that time there were stringent inspections. You could lose a contract for putting only 3 nails where the contract specified 4...

    Cost of housing in Canada

This is why it is so rough on equipment. All those cracks in the ice don't look like a problem but they can be quite deep and wide. You can't tell when you are driving though due to the fact they fill with snow making them seem ok until you drive over a big one. :( Once it gets too rough the...

I don't miss the Daytons at all. Collapsed spacers and sheared valve stems always made for a long day.

    Cost of housing in Canada

G2G, it doesn't matter. The ice roads beat the hell out of everything. When I used to run the ice roads in the NWT back in the 90s the first things that left Edmonton at the beginning of the season was a couple of pallets of trailer springs and a couple of pallets of welding rods. Most companies...
