Close Area Suppression Weapon (was Company Area Suppression Weapon)

New weapon systems for the ADF. http://armynews.realviewdigital.com/?iid=140489#folio=2 - new GMG.  I'm not sure where Canada went with the CASW; this beauty will remain an option within the DFSW platoon, probably mounted on either a soon-to-be discovered ATV, and most likely incorporated in...

CC-177 Para Drop - PPCLI Para Coy, 25 Nov 12

Correct for both statemements.  Disappointing loss of a conventional capability. And yes, heavy drops and door bundles were dropped on both exercises (two years ago).  ORBAT was similar to that described above.

CC-177 Para Drop - PPCLI Para Coy, 25 Nov 12

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=IiYABkFwOxw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7dgHInTy8M Capability 'exists' now, but is definitely on the back-burner. Hooray, T-11s!

AUS getting some Cdn vehicles in AFG

Where are  they?  Not attached to American Route clearance package teams?  It is definitely moving away from t-shirt weather.

    Aussie Airborne?

It's been a long year for 3 RAR.  Lost the beret, (so did everyone else, minus SOF), lost the capability/responsibility, moved homes.      We just bought the T-11.  Not sure how they will now be employed.  They are unlikely to be used in a mass drop of commandos.  Anybody at CPTC used them?

Future Canadian Airborne Capability and Organisation! Or, is it Redundant? (a merged thread)

The light infantry brigade has a few pieces added to support its viability.  First, two (and soon all three) Bns are geographically located together, with all support assets, including an AVN Bde, some naval elements, and an airbase co-located.  Although almost completely interoperable, the...

Draft Revision of C7/C8 PWT System (2-3-4).

Have you looked at the marksmanship training and advanced shoots developed by other countries?

Canada's purchase of the Leopard 2 MBT

Yes.  The reasoning behind that was operating in extremely hot conditions, water got hot, and soldiers didn't drink.  By having a fridge to keep their (spare) camelbacks in, the troops were more likely to stay hydrated.  Lookied for the article - couldn't find it tonight. Chimo

    Engineer Songs

I was always impressed with the singing of the junior ranks from 8 FER and the senior ranks of Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (6 Field sister unit).  "I know a dog whose name is Rover" and "I knew a lady in red" seemed to have been ingrained in my brain, and still get dusted off when...

    Reserve Forces Foreign Service Arrangements

He has actually.  But here's the info page for visas. http://www.dimia.gov.au/immigration.htm There is a big stir up about the...136 visa (I think) which is the skilled worker visa.  But this is a pretty good opportunity for anybody who's doing a university exchange (USask Education and...

    Cambrian Patrol 2006

Sounds like a) it didn't rain and they used modern radios (mine weighed in at 104 lbs for final inspection) and b) they measured the shortest route (we walked 73 klicks).  Fantastic trip.

    AASAM Bound

Wes, I feel for you on the heat, dude.  Add monsoonal rains and that's the NT for ya!  With so many different teams there, I'd be interested on your take of the effectiveness of different cam patterns.  Does the Australian pattern work best here?  Would a dirty cadpat work well?  Sh*tty night...

    Basic Para 2005

That was very funny.  I might just clarify a comment earlier, but I'm not re-reading to see who made it.  The Basic Parachuting Course was/is a course I and almost every other troop in the two reserve units I served with aimed to get on, realizing combat diver and pathfinder was...

    Reservists on Tour - selfish.

In the three training centres I was employed at after a tour, and the one year of training nights and exercises at my unit, plus the two years of training nights and exercises at a unit I was attached to, I noticed the majority of instructors who were teaching reserves were reservists.  For...

    Death by PowerPoint

As help to anyone using powerpoint for lessons, there are a few good tips: 1 - Animations for the first and last screen only - aside from time taken to wait for "flying in from top left," animations take away from students' focus on teaching points and memory of lesson content; 2 - Clips to...
