Com Dev International has been awarded a contract to design satellite equipment for the next generation of a global search and rescue system.
Public Works and Government Services Canada has awarded Com Dev a contract for the first phase of the Medium Earth Orbit Search and Rescue Project, the Cambridge-based company said Monday.
Com Dev’s role in the project is to develop a repeater that Canada plans to send into space as part of the payload of a satellite for the next generation of the global search and rescue system known as Cospas-Sarsat.
Once the satellite is in orbit, 22,000 kilometres above the Earth, the repeater will be able to detect signals from emergency beacons and retransmit those signals to receiver stations on Earth ....
