My advice is to eat the elephant one bite at a time:
You should be able to do BMOQ on the weekends -- so no impact to civilian work, no need for awkward discussions with your boss.
This gives you an opportunity to decide whether this is for you. If it is, you will have at least the duration...
Yes in general -- but your mileage will vary. Look around this site for discussions of BMOQ and BMOQ-A ... these are not specific to Signals so don't limit yourself to this forum. Format for BSOC (and probably BMOQ-A) will change by the time you get there... pandemics, recessions, hiring...
You're mixing up BMQ and BMOQ. It's been a few years since I went through -- but in general:
1. Basic Military Officer Qualification (BMOQ) -- this is the same course as BMQ with an additional mod for officers
2. Basic Military Officer Qualification - Army (BMOQ-A) -- common for Army officers...
Reg Force may be your best option, but If mobility is a deal-breaker, check out the Army Reserve. Similar role, part time, more control over your life. 37 Signal Regiment in St. John's may have various Signals roles.
This is great perspective on both roles. Both roles can lead to rewarding careers (in the CAF and post-CAF). Look at the recruiting videos on Forces.ca for both Sig O and Cyber Operator; and then ask yourself, 'where would I be more motivated: specializing in technology or managing a team of...
I saw former Prime Minister Mulroney speak at an event several years ago, before the pandemic. I'm a Liberal but I thought he was funny, well-spoken and articulate. He did a lot for Canada, not least the investment in the Halifax-class frigates.
The Americans don't have a problem naming major...
Hopefully our collective participation served to remind those watching of the strong bonds between the British, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand militaries. A good message at times like this...
I agree with all sentiments except one: "... a contingent dressed in Ceremonials ... looked more British than Canadian." The kilts and scarlets are Canadian, part of our heritage and a link to one of our founding nations. We just have to promote it more consistently.
I don't like the 'coat of many colours' look. I like both the historic regimental identities (and especially the kilts and the scarlets) and the idea of highlighting the Commonwealth units with whom the Queen had a special relationship. Why not parade in rows by environment and by regiment (or...
Basic is usually run by the Reserve on weekends, in Toronto it is run several times a year . If you want to go officer, you would take Basic Military Officer Qualification (BMOQ) Mod 1, this is about fifteen weekends (every second weekend); and BMOQ Mod 2 which was a five day course last time I...
I resemble that comment...
When I joined, I WAS "a 45 years old healthy and athletic man with a current civilian profession in banking (full time with extra hours - its a managing position)."
No prior service.
So:
- It is realistic to apply for a part-time job in a reserve unit at your age...
